Rooted in a Love That Surpasses Knowledge

Paul’s prayer for the church in Ephesus is both beautiful and unexpected. He does not merely pray for them to receive gifts, miracles, or even power to change the world—though all those things matter. Instead, he prays that they would be rooted and established in love, that they would have the strength to grasp just how vast Christ’s love truly is.

Why? Because being deeply anchored in the love of Christ changes everything. It strengthens us when trials come, humbles us when pride tries to rise, and calms us when fear seeks to take control. It fuels our obedience, softens our hearts toward others, and keeps us from striving for acceptance in the wrong places.

This love surpasses knowledge. We can’t fully study, map, or explain it—it must be experienced. And God invites us to soak in it, to grow roots deep into it, and to let it shape every corner of our being. As we do, we become filled to the measure of all the fullness of God, not lacking anything.

Paul’s prayer isn’t just for the church of Ephesus; it’s a prayer for us today. Let us stop chasing approval, stop worrying about being enough, and instead allow ourselves to rest, to bask, and to grow strong in His unending, unshakeable love.

Closing Prayer:

Father, thank You for loving us more than we could ever comprehend. Today we pause to reflect on how wide, long, high, and deep Your love is for us. Root us and establish us in this love so that we may stop worrying about anything else and simply bask in the love You have lavished on us. Help us grasp more of this truth each day. Amen.
