Verse of the Day:
“But thus you shall deal with them: you shall destroy their altars, and break down their sacred pillars, and cut down their wooden images, and burn their carved images with fire. For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth. The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples.”
— Deuteronomy 7:5–7 (NKJV)
Set Apart with a Purpose
God’s command to Israel was both clear and radical—tear down anything that opposed His holiness. Break their altars. Smash their sacred stones. Burn their idols. Why? Because God’s people are not to coexist with darkness. They are to be set apart, holy, and wholly committed to Him.
These instructions weren’t about cultural superiority. In fact, God reminds them that they were not chosen because of their size, strength, or significance in the eyes of the world. No—they were chosen because of God’s love and sovereign will. He called them His special treasure, a people holy to Himself.
That same calling applies to us today. We are God’s chosen people, called out of darkness to live in the light. But being chosen also carries responsibility. It means we must tear down anything in our lives that dishonors God—whether habits, thoughts, idols of the heart, or compromising relationships.
God is not calling us to a half-hearted faith. He is inviting us into a covenant of total devotion, where our lives reflect our value in His eyes. As His treasured possession, we are to guard our hearts, walk in purity, and live with bold faith that declares: I belong to the Lord.
Your worth is not in what you have or how you compare to others. It is in who chose you. And the One who chose you calls you His own, not because of your greatness, but because of His love.
Closing Prayer
As a chosen people of God, we must remove and do away with anything distasteful to the Lord and live lives worthy of our ‘value and specialness’ to Him. Amen
